Roupen Odabashian: My Wishes for 2025
Roupen Odabashian, Internal Medicine Physician and Hematology/Oncology Fellow at the Karmanos Cancer Institute, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“My Wishes for 2025
One of the biggest hurdles in healthcare is the presence of walls – barriers that come in different forms: physicians, insurance companies, and hospitals.
While patients can easily check their weight, they face restrictions accessing basic health information.
In many states, you can’t simply walk into a lab to get blood work done. Full-body MRI scans remain behind expensive paywalls.
We invest billions in treating diseases like cancer, yet spend negligible amounts on prevention.
My vision for 2025 is patient empowerment through direct healthcare access.
Patients should be able to get affordable blood tests and understand their complete blood counts, electrolytes, and normal ranges as easily as they check their weight and BMI.
I hope there will be MRI scanners not just in hospitals or exclusive facilities, but in shopping malls – accessible to everyone. People should be able to scan themselves and understand their body’s condition as readily as they check their weight.
By 2025, we must empower patients with knowledge about their body’s measures beyond just weight and blood pressure.
They deserve to understand what’s normal and abnormal for their health. We need to tear down these walls and transition to direct-to-consumer healthcare that truly empowers patients.”
