Shaibu Issa: Eliminating hepatitis demands both global advocacy and deeply personal stories
Shaibu Issa, Member of the HBV Global Community Advisory Board at Hepatitis B Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“In Here’s my 2024 LinkedIn Rewind, by Coauthor.studio:
Hidden epidemics require visible leadership. In 2024, I learned that eliminating hepatitis demands both global advocacy and deeply personal stories.
From the halls of American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) to community clinics in Tanzania, this year showed that patient voices can transform medical leadership. My appointment to the AASLD Patient Advisory Group proved that lived experience matters in shaping hepatitis elimination strategies.
Key moments that moved us closer to elimination:
- Appointed to AASLD Patient Advisory Group
- Led multiple Hepatitis Test Week awareness campaigns
- Advanced The Missing Million initiative
- Strengthened advocacy across Tanzania
- Continued service on global advisory boards including Hepatitis B Foundation International Liver Cancer Movement
Three posts that captured our mission:
On joining AASLD’s Patient Advisory Group
Personal story driving prevention mission
On leadership’s role in elimination
Looking ahead: The path to elimination by 2030 runs through testing and vaccination. Every person found, every life saved brings us closer. Finding The Missing Million isn’t just a campaign – it’s our moral imperative.
To everyone living with hepatitis: Your story matters. Your voice drives change. Together, we’ll make elimination a reality.”
