Mariam Hibah Khayata: I am grateful to share that I have been awarded the Rhodes Scholarship
Mariam Hibah Khayata, Global Education Coordinator at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital – ALSAC, made the following post on LinkedIn:
“All praise is to God who made this possible.
I am grateful to share that I have been awarded the Rhodes Scholarship, a fully-funded opportunity to study at Oxford University for two years. InshaAllah (God willing), I plan to enroll in an MPhil in Modern Middle Eastern Studies.
I’m thankful, excited, anxious, but above all trusting of God’s plan.
I have a world of people to thank: my mother Nour Hajjar for her everlasting mentorship and prayers, my beloved family and friends, the Memphis Muslim community from Pleasant View School to 901 Ummah to the Memphis Islamic Center, my Rhodes College family, my advisors and mentors Dr. Esen Kirdis and Dr. Jason Richards, my professors and recommenders Dr. Amy Risley, Dr. Etty Terem, Dr. Erin Dolgoy, Chaplain Beatrix Weil my role model and inspiration Dr. Mohammad Malley, my brother in service Sameer Mansour, my fabulous boss Suheir Rasul, and my colleagues on the ALSAC Global team.
I am the product of the generous time and love good people have invested in me. I thank God for every opportunity He has given me.
I don’t know any other Rhodes Scholar from Memphis but I pray this opens the door for a world of Memphian Rhodes Scholars to come after me. Our city is a noble one. May God bless it.
I ask for your prayers – that God leads me to a path where I can help make meaningful impact on our world.
Bismillah. In the name of God. The Most Gracious. The Most Merciful.”
