Runcie C.W. Chidebe: I am so honored and humbled to be among the 44 scientists to join the International Consensus Panel for Advanced Breast Cancer Guidelines in Lisbon, Portugal

Runcie C.W. Chidebe, Executive Director at Project PINK BLUE, made the following post on LinkedIn:

“I am so honored and humbled to be among the 44 scientists to join the International Consensus Panel for Advanced Breast Cancer Guidelines in Lisbon, Portugal.

The panel of scientists voted on a range of scientific guidelines for the treatment of advanced breast cancer globally (based on the level of research evidence). Once the treatment guidelines are published, they will provide robust guidance and directions to clinicians all over the world.

I used this global opportunity to speak for millions of advanced breast cancer (ABC) in Africa and LMICs who do not have access to many of the treatments in many other countries. It breaks my heart that many of our advanced breast cancer patients do not live long or even have quality of life. Some live with ABC for just 5 or 10 years and they passed away. But, in other countries, I see people living in ABC for over 20 and 30 years. Why? Access to treatment and global inequities.

I want to especially appreciate Dr. Fatima Cardoso and ABC Global Alliance for always being the voice for global equity in access to treatments for ABC patients globally. Not just being the voice, but also “walking the talk” by taking practical actions and steps to bridge the gap in access, availability, and affordability. The recently launched The Max Foundation – ABC Global Alliance Humanitarian PACT is a fantastic opportunity for walking the talk in increasing access to ABC treatment in LMICs. They plan to reach nine (9) countries in LMICs in their phase. I am so excited that the first country to benefit from this initiative is in Africa- Mozambique. I would have been so happy that it started in Nigeria, hahaha, but all the same. I am hopeful that Nigeria will be in the next phase. Together, I hope that the pilot Humanitarian PACT is successful and this success will encourage the partners to expand this project.

Special thanks to the pharmaceutical companies that are placing people first before profit by joining hands with Fatima Cardoso and Pat Garcia-Gonzalez

Our world needs more Fatimas and Pats.”
