Paula Gordon: The importance of advocating for yourself
Paula Gordon, Breast radiologist, Patient advocate, and Clinical Professor at the University of British Columbia., recently shared a post by Ian Weissman, on X/Twittter, adding:
“The message here is the importance of advocating for yourself. But the write-up confuses guidelines for screening with diagnosis. Screening is for women with no symptoms, and should ideally start at age 40. Both these women had lumps! They needed investigation. Happily, they were.”
Quoting Ian Weissman’s post:
“Though only a small number of women under 45 are diagnosed with breast cancer, two younger women insisted on tests and procedures — and it was the right thing to do.”
