“GLOBAL HEALTH CATALYST SUMMIT IN ASIA: STRENGTHENING CANCER CARE IN SAARC COUNTRIES

We extend our gratitude to the Oncology Club of Bangladesh for hosting an impactful Global Health Catalyst Summit – Asia, which featured the launch of the Lancet Oncology Series on Cancer Care in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Countries—a publication everyone invested in global health should explore.

The GHC deeply appreciates the leadership of His Excellency Prof. Muhammad Yunus, interim Head of the Government of Bangladesh and Nobel Laureate, who graciously hosted and inaugurated the series at the State Guest House Jamuna. His acknowledgment of the Lancet Oncology series and commitment to collaborative efforts to address the growing cancer burden in Bangladesh and across SAARC countries was a highlight of the summit.

The event brought together visionary leaders, including Lancet Oncology Editor Prof. David CollingridgeDr. Susie Stanway (London Global Cancer Week), and Lacy Hubbard (Elekta Foundation), among other global oncology experts. Their participation underscored the importance of international collaboration to strengthen cancer control efforts in the region.
We also recognize the remarkable efforts of The White House Cancer Moonshot, with special appreciation to Dr. Catharine Young, for championing global mobilization and action in extending the Cancer Moonshot’s reach – efforts that were highlighted during the summit (Global Cancer Moonshot).

Moving forward, we are committed to continued engagement and partnerships with Bangladesh, SAARC country governments, the Oncology Club of Bangladesh, and other stakeholders. Together, we will work to implement the recommendations from the SAARC Lancet Oncology series, strengthening cancer care and accelerating progress toward the UN Sustainable Development Goals – specifically the goal to reduce premature mortality from non-communicable diseases by one-third by 2030.

This summit is a clear demonstration of what can be achieved when collaboration, research, and leadership converge to address global health challenges.”
