Unekwu Hadiza A-Arome: A call to action against one of the leading cancers affecting men in Nigeria
Unekwu Hadiza A-Arome, Chief Operating Officer of Medicaid Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Medicaid Cancer Foundation partnered with Johnson and Johnson Innovative Medicine to host a successful prostate cancer awareness and screening event for the staff of National Health Insurance Authority.
This initiative was more than just an event – it was a call to action against one of the leading cancers affecting men in Nigeria. It emphasized the importance of early detection, and demonstrated the power of partnerships in transforming healthcare outcomes.
NHIA plays a critical role in ensuring affordable healthcare for Nigerians. By engaging its staff, this initiative served a dual purpose: improving individual health outcomes and advocating for the integration of routine cancer screenings into health insurance packages.
Coincidentally, today’s headline in Guardian Nigeria one of Nigeria’s most respected newspapers, was focused on prostate cancer—underscoring the timeliness and urgency of this intervention. It’s a powerful reminder of the need for consistent action in addressing this critical health issue.
I am proud to have led the team in this collaboration, ensuring seamless coordination among stakeholders and driving the mission of making cancer prevention accessible to all.
Cancer prevention is not just a healthcare challenge – it’s a shared responsibility. Let’s continue working together to make early detection and affordable care a reality for all Nigerians.”
