Bridging the cancer care gap: Funding solutions for LMICs – UICC
Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), including cancer, are responsible for three-quarters of global deaths but continue to receive only 1%-2% of global health financing.
In a recent article by Devex, Dr Cary Adams, CEO of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), highlights the urgent need to address this funding gap and explores innovative solutions, such as a global diagnostics fund.
Cary Adams notes that ‘NCDs and cancer were missed out in the Millennium Development Goals. While they are now included in the Sustainable Development Goals, mechanisms of support are still primarily focused on infectious diseases.’
The article examines the barriers to funding cancer care, the role of political will, and how targeted financing could drive progress in NCD prevention, treatment, and care.”
