Runcie C.W. Chidebe: I am so delighted to have been awarded the James McKenney Award by the GSA

Runcie C.W. Chidebe, Executive Director at Project Pink Blue, shared on LinkedIn:

“A few days ago, I arrived in Tampa, Florida for the Gerontological Society of America (GSA) Annual Meeting with funding support from the Academy for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE). I was surprised to see my pictures on the Big Screens at different locations of the Tampa Convention Center. I also saw my name on some billboards. I was wondering what an honour.

Just in case you are wondering! I am so delighted to have been awarded the James McKenney Award by the Gerontological Society of America (GSA), Academy for Gerontology in Higher Education based on my aspirations to advance the field of gerontology/geriatrics.

I am so excited, inspired and humbled by this achievement. My passion for education and research in cancer is growing by the day. I want to specially thank my mentors: Phyllis Cummins and Jennifer Kinney for all their support, encouragement and guidance. I also want to appreciate Taka Yamashita for his kindness and intellectual support. Working on the UMBC-RAND-Miami grant has been phenomenal. Special appreciation to all the scientists at Scripps Gerontology Center and Miami University.

GSA has been amazing so far, I have been meeting so many scholars and scientists who are doing phenomenal work in transforming the lives of older adults. I have four presentations and three posters at this conference. I am learning a lot and networking with the best of the best in gerontology and geriatrics.

I will continue to explore innovative approaches in research for older adults impacted by cancer in Nigeria, Africa and globally. I strongly believe that cancer is taking away our older adults at a time that we needed them most. We need to do more in research and education.

Thank you so much AGHE, GSA.
