Sendurai Mani: Together, Let’s Fight Pancreatic Cancer

Sendurai Mani, Dean’s Chair for Translational Oncology at Brown University Warren Alpert Medical School, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Together, Let’s Fight Pancreatic Cancer: Raising Awareness This November

November marks Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, a time to spotlight the fight against one of the most challenging cancers.

The pancreas, located in the upper abdomen behind the stomach and in front of the spine, plays a critical role in digestion (exocrine function) and blood sugar regulation (endocrine function). While tremendous progress has been made in breast and prostate cancer treatments, pancreatic cancer continues to present significant challenges. There is still much work to be done to achieve similar breakthroughs.

This month, I honor the courageous warriors who have battled pancreatic cancer, celebrate the survivors, and extend my support to those currently in the fight. I also deeply appreciate the dedication of doctors, scientists, students, companies, advocates, and funders who are working tirelessly to make a positive impact. Special thanks to my lab members (manilab), members of Legorreta Cancer Center at Brown University, Brown University Health, Care New England, and other healthcare workers for their passion to make a difference.

A heartfelt thank you to Ms. Pat Tarantino, whose brave fight against this disease inspired her to leave a remarkable legacy. Pat requested her husband, Mr. John Tarantino, to donate millions of dollars by selling their beautiful home and also from her life insurance to support pancreatic cancer research. Honoring her wish, John established the John and Pat Tarantino Foundation, dedicating his life to raising awareness and driving breakthroughs in pancreatic cancer research.

I am also incredibly grateful to Ms. Barbara Papitto, whose compassion and generosity in advancing cancer research are truly inspiring. Her commitment to helping those in need has made a lasting difference in the fight against cancer.

I hope everyone will work together and conquer this formidable disease.
