Elizabeth Franklin: Patient navigation is an integral component of oncology care
Elizabeth Franklin, Head of US Public Affairs and Patient Advocacy, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Patient navigation is an integral – not value-added but absolutely integral – component of oncology care. Navigating our health care system is extraordinarily challenging. Additionally, while the fast paced innovations in cancer care are absolutely reason to celebrate, the advances of science can also introduce confusion for patients who are rightfully focused on saving their lives.
Yesterday, I had the immense honor of moderating a panel at the White House to celebrate a pivotal milestone—one year of patient navigation as a reimbursable service.
Thank you to the incredible panelists Shanthi Sivendran, Bobby Green and Doug Jacobs for engaging in a discussion on the profound impact patient navigation has had on improving access to care, supporting patients through complex healthcare journeys, and reducing disparities in health outcomes.
The event brought together leaders, advocates, and innovators who are driving this critical work forward. Together, we reflected on the progress made over the past year and envisioned the possibilities ahead for ensuring navigation services reach even more patients in need.
This milestone is a testament to what happens when policy, advocacy, and innovation align to truly center patients. I am inspired by the collective commitment to making healthcare more equitable and patient-focused.
A huge thank you to everyone who has championed this effort and to those who joined us in this important conversation especially Anabella Aspiras who combines her brilliance with vision and grit to get big, challenging things accomplished that will truly help others.
Let’s continue building on this momentum!”
