“Medicaid Cancer Foundation at 1Ummah Annual Convention: A Step Towards Cervical Cancer Elimination.

November 17, marked a significant milestone as we joined the 1Ummah Annual Convention to host a session during the Teen Gathering, coinciding with the Cervical Cancer Elimination Day of Action organized by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Our session focused on raising awareness about cervical cancer and the importance of HPV vaccination, equipping young minds with knowledge to prevent this highly preventable disease. Teens in attendance were educated on:

  • The role of HPV as a leading cause of cervical cancer.
  • The benefits of early HPV vaccination in reducing cervical cancer risks.
  • The importance of regular screening for early detection.

The timing of this event could not have been more symbolic, as the WHO’s Day of Action reinforces the global commitment to eliminate cervical cancer through the 90-70-90 strategy:

  • 90% of girls fully vaccinated with the HPV vaccine by age 15.
  • 70% of women screened for cervical cancer by age 35 and again by 45.
  • 90% of women identified with cervical disease receiving treatment.

Our engagement with these young leaders of tomorrow highlighted that awareness starts with education, and change begins with action. By empowering teens with knowledge today, we are fostering a future generation free of cervical cancer.
