“Celebrating International Men’s Day: A Personal Reflection
On International Men’s Day, I want to take a moment to reflect on the journey of being a man in oncology — a field where every day brings the opportunity to impact lives profoundly.
This day is not just about celebrating achievements; it’s also a reminder to address the importance of men’s health, both as caregivers and as individuals. From advancing cancer care to advocating for early detection in men’s cancers like prostate, testicular and colorectal, I am proud to contribute to this vital mission.
To my colleagues—male and female—thank you for inspiring me with your unwavering dedication to transforming the patient journey.
And to all men out there: Let’s prioritize our health, encourage each other to speak openly, and lead by example in building a healthier future for all.

Emad Shash is the General Manager of the Breast Cancer Comprehensive Center of the National Cancer Institute at Cairo University. He is also a Lecturer at Cairo University and Medical Oncologist at the National Cancer Institute.
