Mazvita Sengayi-Muchengeti: Cervical Cancer Elimination Day of Action
“Today, 17 November marks four years since the 90-70-90 Global Strategy to Eliminate Cervical Cancer as a public health problem, was launched.
This Cervical Cancer Elimination Day of Action, we are excited to be one of the recipients of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) HPV vaccination grants for projects on advocating, raising awareness and mobilising communities for HPV vaccination.
This year’s theme is ‘Elevating frontline health workers: transforming global commitments into lifesaving actions’.
In line with this theme, our project is entitled:
‘Building capacity of Community Health Workers in Eastern Cape and Kwa-Zulu Natal to implement integrated Sexual Reproductive Health Training with a focus on HPV vaccination and cervical cancer prevention’.
In collaboration with our implementing partners – The Cancer Alliance, we seek to reach underserved communities through training community health workers to regain public trust in HPV vaccination.
The two provinces are also our population-based cancer surveillance sites.
