Cara Sullivan: The challenges of filling critical roles in Radiation Oncology

“At Atrium Health Levine Cancer, we recognize the challenges of filling critical roles in Radiation Oncology—Radiation Therapists, Medical Dosimetrists, Oncology Nurses, Medical Physicists, and Administrative Leaders. It requires us to think creatively about workforce development. One of our most impactful approaches is reaching out directly to high school students, helping them envision a future in this meaningful field.
This week, we had the privilege of visiting a few high schools in Fort Mill, SC, where our team engaged with nearly 100 students, sharing insights into our specialties. Connecting with these bright, ambitious young adults as they contemplate their career paths is both inspiring and rewarding. High school is a pivotal time for students, filled with both excitement and uncertainty as they start to envision their future. By offering a window into the rewarding careers in radiation oncology, we hope to inspire and perhaps guide some of them toward this path.
Our team at Levine is passionate about what we do, and we find great value in these interactions. Not only do we get to share our knowledge and experience, but we also gain fresh perspectives from the students, reinforcing our commitment to making a positive impact in our community. Together, we are helping shape the future of healthcare.”
