Urging your lawmakers to pass legislation extending Medicare’s telehealth flexibilities – ASCO

“Without congressional action, Medicare’s telehealth flexibilities are set to expire at the end this year. Urge your lawmakers to pass legislation extending these flexibilities.

Fumiko Ladd Chino, Attending in Radiation Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center, shared this post on X adding:

“Telehealth allows me to see patients on their schedule. I’ve had consults from patient couches, home offices, from the alleyway outside their retail jobs, and from their cars during lunch break. I am for any tool which enables people to continue to live on their time (not mine).”

Nathan A. Pennell, Professor and Vice Chair of Clinical Research at Cleveland Clinic, also shared this post on X and added:

“Telehealth allows us to reach patients where they live, expanding access both to standard oncology care and clinical trials and reducing disparities impacting rural and underserved pts. Help by advocating for extending these flexibilities!”

Jason Westin, Director of Lymphoma Clinical Research and Section Chief of Aggressive Lymphoma at MD Anderson Cancer Centre, shared this on X adding:

“Telemedicine has become as essential part of how we care for our patients, expanding access and reducing barriers. It takes just a moment to tell your lawmakers with the link.”

Fumiko Ladd Chino is an attending in Radiation Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center, who specializes in gynecological and breast cancers. She was also a caregiver for her husband Andrew Mark Ladd, PhD who died from cancer in 2007. She is a recipient of numerous awards, including ASCO Excellence in Equity Award (2022), Duke Radiation Oncology Award for Outstanding Clinical Research (2019), Duke University Hospital “Good Catch” Award (2018), Conquer Cancer Foundation of ASCO Merit Award (2018), Duke University School of Medicine Dean’s Recognition Award (2014) and Memorial Hermann Hospital, Texas Medical Center Volunteer of the Year Award (2009).

Jason Westin is a Professor, Director of Lymphoma Clinical Research and Section Chief of Aggressive Lymphoma at MD Anderson Cancer Centre. Previously, he was an Assistant Professor and Co-Founding Member of Hospitalist Department at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
