“Celebrating a Decade of Impact: WalkAway Cancer Marks 10 Years of Advocacy and Awareness
Since 2014, WalkAway Cancer has been more than a walk—it’s a movement. Over the past decade, we’ve united thousands in the fight against cancer, raising awareness, supporting patients and caregivers, and inspiring action. This year, as we celebrated 10 years of walking against cancer, nearly 5,000 participants joined us, proving the strength and commitment of our community.
Leadership That Inspires Change
This milestone event was graced by exceptional leaders whose presence amplified our mission:
Hon. Adebayo Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of Economy Ministry of Finance
Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning
Her Excellency Mrs Oluremi Tinubu, represented by Mrs. Fatima Abass Tajudeen
Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, First Lady of Zamfara State
Dr. Walter Kazadi Mulombo, World Health Organization Representative to Nigeria
Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission
Their commitment reinforced the lifesaving message we’ve championed for a decade: Early Detection Saves Lives. Their support propels us closer to a cancer-free future.
Survivors: A Beacon of Hope
The event’s heartwarming highlight was hearing from cancer survivors. Their stories of resilience inspired the crowd and reminded us all: ‘Cancer is not a death sentence.’ Atinuke Cancer Foundation
Advocacy Meets Entertainment
WalkAway Cancer is about hope and community, and this year was no different. After the walk, attendees enjoyed a lively funfair hosted by MC Chuks D General, featuring amazing performances by: Magnito, D’Banj, AliJita, Namenj and Abdool D One
The energy and music reminded us that while cancer advocacy is serious, it can also be a unifying and joyful journey.
Free Medical Screenings
Our partnerships with Project PINK BLUE, Breast Without Spot, and Medicaid Radio-diagnostics and Clinics allowed participants to access free health services, including:
- Hepatitis B tests
- Free HPV vaccinations for girls (9–14 years)
- Free breast exams
- Vitals checks (blood pressure and sugar)
Looking Ahead
As we reflect on the past 10 years, we are filled with gratitude for everyone who has walked with us. Together, we are building a future where care is accessible, early detection is prioritized, and no one faces cancer alone.
Thank you for making WalkAway Cancer 2024 a monumental success. Let’s continue walking toward a cancer-free future!”
