November is not just for Movember; it is also Lung Cancer Awareness Month.

I vividly remember the first time I met a patient with lung cancer.

I’d previously thought everyone who is diagnosed with the disease must have been a long-term smoker or been exposed to a toxic gas or second-hand cigarette smoke.

This assumption is commonly spread about patients with lung cancer.

It will interest you to know that non-smokers can be diagnosed with lung cancer.

What I’ve Learned After My Research:
1. Education: Lung cancer affects anyone, regardless of age or smoking history.
2. Awareness: Everyone should recognise symptoms and risk factors and take prompt action.
3. Advocacy: Demand better resources, research, and support.

Monitor these warning signs:
1. Persistent cough or wheezing
2. Chest pain or discomfort
3. Coughing up blood
4. Fatigue or weight loss
5. Shortness of breath
6. Recurring respiratory infections

Take Action
1. Consult a doctor if symptoms persist.
2. Get screened if you’re at high risk (smokers, ex-smokers, or exposed to radon).
3. Support research and advocacy initiatives.
4. Share stories; break stigma.

Let’s unite for lung cancer awareness, education, and advocacy.
Share your stories, support those affected, and demand change.”
