Dr. Minesh Mehta is a renowned radiation oncologist and expert in proton therapy.
He is the Deputy Director and Chief of Radiation Oncology at Miami Cancer Institute, Baptist Health South Florida, where he leads the region’s first Proton Therapy Center.
Previously, Dr. Mehta was Medical Director of the Proton Treatment Center at the University of Maryland, where he launched the mid-Atlantic’s first dedicated pencil-beam proton therapy center. He has also served as Chair of the Department of Human Oncology at the University of Wisconsin, where he led significant research and clinical advancements, including the development of Tomotherapy.
With over 1,000 publications, Dr. Mehta is a recognized leader in his field and has held prominent roles in national organizations like ASTRO, ASCO, and SNO. He has led numerous national and international clinical studies, receiving major NIH and NCI funding. Dr. Mehta earned his medical degree from the University of Zambia and completed his residency at the University of Wisconsin, where he was chief resident in radiation oncology.
About the John and Mary Lou Dasburg Endowed Chair in Radiation Oncology
Baptist Health Foundation announced that it had received a $2 million donation from John and Mary Lou Dasburg to establish an endowed chair in radiation oncology in support of the planned Women’s Cancer Center at Miami Cancer Institute. The chair was named the John and Mary Lou Dasburg Endowed Chair in Radiation Oncology in recognition of the generous donors. It was established to support the work of Dr. Minesh P. Mehta, who served as the chief of radiation oncology and deputy director of Miami Cancer Institute.
The future Women’s Cancer Center at Miami Cancer Institute will enable the rapidly growing Institute to expand access to cancer care while addressing the unique needs of women. The state-of-the-art, 115,000-square-foot center, located in the new Keeley Pavilion on Baptist Health’s main campus, will offer a comprehensive range of services. It will feature renowned cancer specialists and provide a holistic, compassionate approach to patient care.
An endowed chair installation ceremony honoring the Dasburg family and Dr. Minesh Mehta was held on October 29, 2024, at the Ritz-Carlton in Coconut Grove. The event was attended by over 75 guests and culminated in the formal presentation of the John and Mary Lou Dasburg Endowed Chair in Radiation Oncology to Dr. Mehta.
