Deb Schrag and Lorenz Studer have been elected to the National Academy of Medicine

Dr. Deb Schrag, Chair of the Department of Medicine, and Dr. Lorenz Studer, Director of the Center for Stem Cell Biology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, have been elected to the National Academy of Medicine.

This year, NAM elected 90 regular members and 10 international members during its annual meeting. Election to the Academy is considered one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine and recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service.

The National Academy of Medicine (NAM), established as the Institute of Medicine in 1970 by the National Academy of Sciences, addresses vital issues in health, science, medicine, and policy. NAM collaborates with the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering to offer independent, objective analysis and recommendations on complex problems and public policy. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine promote education, research, and public understanding of STEMM fields, while recognizing exceptional contributions. NAM members commit to volunteering in various activities to support these goals.

Dr. Deb Schrag is the Chair of the Department of Medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK), where she leads nearly 500 faculty members in advancing cancer therapies and patient care. A medical oncologist specializing in gastrointestinal cancers, Dr. Schrag is internationally recognized for her research in health services, focusing on improving cancer outcomes and equity. Prior to MSK, she was Chief of Population Sciences at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
