National Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day 2024

National Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day is celebrated on October 13th to shed light on how critical it is that more awareness, research funding and treatment is given to this disease.

The average survival continues to be only 18-24 months and this disease remains fatal for 97-99% of those diagnosed. This is devastating, especially because we know more and more young women are being diagnosed than ever before.

On this occasion, healthcare professionals and organizations shared on social media:

Maryam Lustberg

“Commited to raise awareness and take action as a partner to multiple advocacy organizations and all my patients as a breast medical oncologist of 2 decades witness to so many lives lost.”

Dr. Kimryn Rathmell

“New research shows that sensory nerves help spread breast cancer ‘from a distance’ without touching cancer cells directly. A promising step toward developing treatments that may stop cancer spread and a bright spot on Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day.”

Marina Reeves

“Today is Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Women with MBC continue to receive less support as they’ve been historically excluded from research. Our Optimising Care trial hopes to change that.”

Recruitment is open.

Zeina Moukarzel

“Today we celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Day by honoring the brave fighters, survivors, and loved ones affected by this disease. Let’s come together in pink solidarity to spread awareness, support research, and empower each other on this important day. You are not alone in this journey! ”

“Today is Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Metastatic, or stage IV, breast cancer occurs when cancer cells have spread from the breast to distant parts of the body. Learn how this type of cancer can impact young women from CDC.”

“Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day. About every 2 minutes a woman in the US will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Hug a survivor today, think of a good memory of someone you lost, and never forget regular screenings!”

Roswell Park

“Today, we observe Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day. On this day, we remain committed to providing support for all those living with metastatic breast cancer while our doctors and researchers continue working tirelessly toward developing new treatments until we find a cure.”

“Metastatic breast cancer awareness day. The Glimmer of Hope metastatic center at AHN was recently featured in Women’s Day and Good Housekeeping magazine.

We are proud of this center but most importantly the impact it has had on these patients. We know we need to do more and we will.

“Today is Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day, a day dedicated to highlighting a crucial aspect of breast cancer that’s often overshadowed. But this shouldn’t just be one day on the calendar—it should be every day. Awareness, research, and education for all stages of breast cancer are vitally important, especially for those facing stage 4.

The metastatic breast cancer (MBC) ribbon isn’t merely three colors; it’s a beacon of hope, resilience, and the continuous fight for life-extending treatments:

Green: Triumph of life over death, renewal, hope, and immortality.
Teal: Healing and spirituality.
Thin pink overlay: Signifies the cancer’s origin in the breast.
The ribbon campaign’s mission is to educate and inspire, raise essential funds for MBC research, and develop treatments that extend lives.

I am truly honored to be collaborating with my Medical Advisors, Dr. Singh and Dr. Rajendran along with Annie, who was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer at just 26. Together, we’re crafting a comprehensive guide to share invaluable information about symptoms, treatment options, and clinical trials—all through Annie’s personal journey. Our deepest hope is to foster greater awareness and education about the realities of stage 4 breast cancer, showing that every stage needs our attention and care.”

Elissa Kalver

“Today is Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day, and I want to raise awareness by talking to myself from October of 2020, before I even knew what MBC was!

Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC) accounts for 30% of all breast cancer cases and is responsible for nearly 100% of all breast cancer deaths. In fact, someone dies from breast cancer every 14 minutes in the U.S.

At WeGotThis.org, we are committed to bringing comfort and joy to those living with cancer. This month WeGotThis.org is also making contributions to The Breasties Stage 4 Research Grant and METAVIVOR RESEARCH AND SUPPORT INC, two organizations dedicated to advancing MBC research and quality of life for thrivers like me

Together, WE GOT THIS.”
