From AROME to EXIOME: Strengthening Oncology Practices in LMICs Through Global Collaboration
“After founding AROME (www.aromecancer.org) with my friend Joseph Gligorov in 2006, we worked during 18 years with friends from both borders of the “mare nostrum” on training programs and welcoming young people into our departments to share our experiences and help them to be robust in the face of decisions to be made in front of their patients. One of the major works accomplished more than ten years ago was to publish “the minimum requirements” for LMICs.
Continuing this project, EXIOME “was born” October 10th 2024 in Istanbul!! We brought together experts from the Mediterranean area and LMICs to discuss what has always seemed to me to be the major doubt in Oncology practices in LMICs: “the applicability of Western guidelines” with regard to the means and available human resources. It was a great moment of exchange and friendship with the AROME spirit.
For those who had not the opportunity to be with us they will have the conclusions on manuscripts and hope to see them at the next EXIOME. Thank you to all the friends who were involved in this new and exciting adventure!”
Lazar Popovic, Professor of Oncology, Oncology Institute of Vojvodina, University of Novi Sad, Novi Sad, Serbia, reshared above post on LinkedIn, adding:
“Very proud and honored to be part of this project and AROME for many years. Thank you Yazid Belkacemi and Joseph Gligorov!”
