Elisabetta Bonzano: Reductions in recurrence in women with early breast cancer entering clinical trials between 1990 and 2009
Elisabetta Bonzano, Radiation Oncologist at IRCCS San Matteo Polyclinic Foundation, shared a post on X:
” Reductions in recurrence in women with early breast cancer entering clinical trials between 1990 and 2009: a pooled analysis of 155 746 women in 151 trials – The Lancet
After adjustment, women diagnosed since 2000 have about a fifth lower rate of distant recurrence than the 1990s.
Trial outcomes have improved over time in both HR+ and HR- cancers.
Most (80–90%) of this improvement can be explained by a combination of two factors: greater recruitment of women at lower risk in modern trials; and improved adjuvant therapies.”
