Emotional Toll of Rare Cancers: Study by Valerie Yang Highlights the Need for Enhanced Support

“A new study led by Dr Valerie Yang, Joint Research Clinician at A*STAR Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB), revealed that rare cancer patients are nearly three times more likely to develop anxiety and depression compared to those with common cancers.
Patients like Mr Soh Kim Hai, who was diagnosed with Stage IV soft tissue sarcoma, face not only medical challenges but also emotional and psychological stress. While fighting his disease, Mr Soh found solace in painting. His journey highlights the importance of not just physical care, but also emotional support for rare cancer patients, something Dr Yang and her team are dedicated to improving.
