A celebration of Sports, Strength, and Solidarity for Pediatric Oncology Patients – AIEOP
AIEOP (Associazione Italiana Ematologia Oncologia Pediatrica) shared a post on LinkedIn:
” WINNERS CUP 2024
Last Saturday, this 2-day event, organized by FC Internazionale Milano with BPER Banca, together with Csi Comitato di Milano, AIEOP, and Fondazione Bianca Garavaglia, was dedicated to over 300 girls and boys undergoing treatment for hematology/oncology diseases, which focused all its efforts on demonstrating how sports is a universal language as well as action, and that it can represent, in its own small way, the best antidote to the disease.
Andrea Ferrari, pediatric oncologist, creator of the tournament and coordinator of the AIEOP’s Adolescent Working Group best explains this incredible event dedicated to adolescents:
“The Winners Cup is a celebration, a day of sports, but above all a time for meeting and storytelling, in which kids that are ill from all over Europe come together to share their stories. For us professionals who work in oncology, the tournament is also a precious opportunity to draw everyone’s attention to the fact that adolescents are special patients, in an age halfway between pediatric and adult oncology, and for this reason sometimes not optimally: patients who need dedicated centers and projects, designed for them.”
