Winan van Houdt: Stijn van der Burg won the bronze best abstract prize at the annual meeting of ESSO

Winan van Houdt shared on Linkedin:

” Proud of Stijn van der Burg, our student who won the bronze best abstract prize at the annual meeting of the European Society of Surgical Oncology in Antwerp last week esso43

He presented our study showing that neo-adjuvant paclixel before extended resection of breast (radiation associated) angiosarcoma leads to a very promising increase in overall survival and reduction of local recurrences and distant metastases.

Angiosarcoma is a devastating rare cancer with over 60% of patients experiencing recurrent disease within 3 years after surgery, which is often lethal. In our series none of the patients had recurrent disease after three years when patients recieved paclitaxel before surgery.

Stay tuned for the publication.”
