Janine Fuochi Huguenin: I went to the launch of the Lancet Commission report last week and was shocked but not surprised by some of the findings
Janine Fuochi Huguenin, Campaign Manager at Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), shared a post by Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) on LinkedIn, adding:
“I went to the launch of the Lancet Commission report last week and was shocked but not surprised by some of the findings. Did you know…?
- Cancer ranks in the top three causes of premature mortality among women in almost all countries in the world
- While breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women, there is still not enough research to understand what causes it
- Women as leaders in the cancer workforce are under-represented and experience gender-based discrimination, including bullying and sexual harassment
- Patriarchy dominates cancer care, research, and policy-making. Those in positions of power decide what is prioritised, funded and studied
Did anyone else have a similar reaction?”
Qouting Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) ‘s post:
“Cancer is a leading cause of mortality in women. A new The Lancet Commission suggests unequal power dynamics across society have resounding negative impacts on how women interact with cancer prevention, care, and treatment. More here.”
