A Global Coalition for gender equity in cancer care – City Cancer Challenge
City Cancer Challenge shared on LinkedIn:
“This week during UNGA79 we convened a growing coalition of leaders and partners from around the world, all committed to achieving Gender Equity in Cancer Care. We discussed many things, but sharing several themes that will be critical to take this work forward:
– Better evidence generation including real-time collection and sharing of data and learnings
– Tailored interventions that consider local needs, cultural nuances, etc.
– Representation of women at all levels of healthcare and decision making, with the ability to impact policy change.
– Continued cross-sector collaboration and partnership and consideration for how we better integrate cancer care priorities across other disease areas.
– Effective measurement of our impact and better storytelling of our impact and progress.
More than 800,000 lives could potentially be saved annually through gender equity in cancer care. At C/Can we’re committed to making this number history and will be translating this discussion into action, starting in three pilot cities in Tbilisi, Leon, and Nairobi.
Thanks to MSD and Siemens Healthineers for making this conversation and inclusion of our incredible city leaders possible.

“It’s inspiring to see such a strong commitment towards achieving gender equity in cancer care. As Qatar Cancer Society partners to City Cancer Challenge (C/Can), we stand firmly behind these critical actions, from evidence generation to impactful storytelling.
Together, we will work towards ensuring that women are represented at every level, and that interventions are tailored to the cultural needs of each community. The potential to save over 800,000 lives annually is a driving force for us all, and we are excited to be part of the work ahead in Tbilisi, Leon, Nairobi, and beyond.
Thank you to all the partners and city leaders pushing forward for a future where cancer care is equitable for all.”
“Did you know that Amgen is supporting City Cancer Challenge?
Thank you Isabel Mestres and Maria F Navarro for this new initiative, ‘Cities Taking Action for Gender Equity in Cancer Care’. And thank you for organizing the discussion last week in NY. I’m ready to get to work with you to stop the widening care gap among women in low and middle-income countries!”
“Thank you to the many brilliant minds who joined us to continue charting out the pathway to Gender Equity in Cancer Care. Your support, honesty and commitment to this work is what drives us.
We are building these insights and learnings into our programming going forward and look forward to keeping the conversation going.
Learn more and get involved.”
