Yasmine Hassan: Liver cancer is the 6th most common cancer worldwide
Yasmine Hassan, Global Patient Affairs Director at AstraZeneca, shared the following on LinkedIn:
“Liver cancer is the 6th most common cancer worldwide. In 2020, there were approximately 905,700 new cases and 830,200 deaths worldwide due to liver cancer.
At AstraZeneca, we are deeply committed to understanding the shortfalls and gaps in patient care and exploring innovative ways to address these challenges. This is why I am proud to report back from two multi-disciplinary liver cancer roundtables, organized and funded by AstraZeneca across September.
During the roundtable held as a satellite event to the ESMO – European Society for Medical Oncology, we reviewed a draft patient charter on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) being co-developed by AstraZeneca and the liver cancer community, where we discussed how we drive forward awareness and impactful change in regards to the major challenges in HCC care.
During our meeting at the World Cancer Congress, we gained perspectives on how together, the liver cancer community can develop a powerful case for change in HCC care, with a focus on ensuring timely access to an accurate diagnosis and improving the prioritization of HCC.”
