Harold Cottin: Cross-Sector Collaboration Key to Global Health Challenges

Harold Cottin, Head of Global Public Affairs at City Cancer Challenge, posted the following on LinkedIn:

“Are we still discussing the added value of cross-sector collaborations to address global health challenges in 2024?

Healthcare is so complex. There is no chance a single actor can address it alone. Partnerships are not just optional but imperative.

We usually list the challenges of engaging in a cross-sector collaboration, but sometimes fail to come with concrete, operational solutions. There are limited available models for private sector participation in public-sector led interventions.

This is exactly what we tried to tackle yesterday during the WCC24 session on ‘Unleashing the Power of Cross-Sector Collaboration to Improve Cancer Care in LMICs: Real-World Case Studies, Best Practices, and Effective Tools,’ hosted by City Cancer Challenge and moderated by Guy Fones from the World Health Organization.

C/Can has learnt so much from all our partnerships since 2017. To capture some of these key learnings, we have developed a collaboration framework with Roche. The objective of this framework is to define the right structure for the partnership to succeed.

I was pleased to present this tool during the session. It is a pragmatic tool that can help any organization willing to engage in a cross-sector partnership. It is free and accessible to everyone (see below) This is very much in line with C/Can philosophy to test things, fail (sometimes) and share the key learnings with the community.

Our hope is that this template will prove useful for local organizations that would like to engage in a partnership, but don’t necessarily have the experience or the resources to set the right foundations for it.

Big thanks to Ikram ESEGHIR for sharing her patient’s perspective with strong words, to Maka Asatiani, MAIRA CALEFFI, Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu for sharing their first-hand experience of cross sector collaborations, to Hussein Alshamali Alshamali for presenting the WHO tool intended for Members States, and to Fernando Arnaiz and Stephanie Shahini for the great partnership we are having together.”
