Roupen Odabashian: The ability to measure a marker doesn’t equate to clinical benefit

Roupen Odabashian posted on LinkedIn:

“The ability to measure a marker doesn’t equate to clinical benefit.

I have seen many startups capable of measuring specific markers and hypothesizing potential outcomes from measuring these markers.

However, real-life applications often differ significantly.
This disconnect is particularly evident when tech founders from lab or academic backgrounds develop tests for various markers without early collaboration with physicians.

Even if a marker is mentioned in clinical guidelines, it doesn’t guarantee its practical use in medical decision-making.
To founders with academic or PhD backgrounds skilled in test development: I strongly advise early collaboration with physicians.

Don’t rely solely on guidelines.

Investigate whether measuring your marker can truly impact patient health or medical practice.

This approach can bridge the gap between theoretical potential and real-world clinical value.”
