Carmen Monge-Montero: Cross-cultural collaboration in cancer advocacy through A Fresh Chapter Fellowship
Carmen Monge-Montero posted the following on LinkedIn:
“Hi, Network!
Today, I had the incredible opportunity to visit Chandaria Cancer Centre-Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, Kenya as part of my participation in A Fresh Chapter Chapter’s Africa Elevate Fellowship.
This experience is an inspiring journey of cross-cultural collaboration and cancer advocacy. The Elevate Fellowship, launched in 2019, brings together cancer patients, survivors, caregivers, and advocates from Kenya and the U.S. (now Costa Rica and Europe) to share perspectives, build connections, and drive meaningful change. Supported by partners like Eli Lilly and Company, this fellowship is about growth, leadership, and making a real impact!
Here’s what we’re working towards in 2024:
- Expanding access to the Africa Ignite Experience to support 50 Africans impacted by cancer.
- Rolling out 18 onsite Mizizi workshops across Kenya, reaching over 1,000 patients, survivors, and caregivers.
- Providing leadership training to 40 African cancer advocates through the AFC Leaders program.
Being a part of this fellowship has opened my eyes to the power of collaboration across cultures to build a brighter future for cancer advocacy in Africa and beyond. I’m so excited that this is only the beginning of this experience of two weeks.
Keep tuned to learn more about the Elevate program or get involved.”
