Joshua Omale: My experience in assisted reproduction and childhood cancer

“Day 5: Understanding the molecular basis: my experience in assisted reproduction and childhood cancer
Recently, I had the opportunity to deepen my understanding of the intricate science behind life itself through an observership in assisted reproduction and embryology.
As I observed the delicate processes of preimplantation genetic diagnosis and screening, I couldn’t help but think about how this knowledge connects to my passion for childhood cancer advocacy. At its core, cancer is a disease of the genes – a molecular battle that begins deep within cells.
My experiences have given me a new perspective on how crucial early detection and understanding of genetic mutations can be in the fight against cancer.
Moving forward, I’m eager to leverage this knowledge to better understand the molecular underpinnings of childhood cancers, and to advocate for research that targets these root causes. I’m immensely grateful to the mentors – the embryologists and geneticists – who have guided me on this journey and who continue to inspire me to push the boundaries of what is possible in both fertility science and cancer research.”
