Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu: I had the privilege of attending the Oxford Academy 2024 training on ‘Managing Innovation: Financing Health Systems and Digital Health’ for World Health Leaders

“I had the privilege of attending the Oxford Academy 2024 training on ‘Managing Innovation: Financing Health Systems and Digital Health’ for World Health Leaders at the Harris Manchester College, University of Oxford. This was the first time participants from Africa were included, making it a truly significant experience. The course covered essential topics like sustainable healthcare financing and alternative funding models, with insightful case studies from Singapore and the Netherlands.
A standout moment was participating in a role-playing exercise as a member of a Health Technology Assessment (HTA) decision committee. This provided firsthand insight into the complexities of evaluating new technologies. Additionally, learning about the challenges and progress in integrated care in England, as well as the innovative e-health solutions in Estonia, offered valuable perspectives for addressing similar issues in our context.
Beyond the academic content, the training was an invaluable opportunity to connect with brilliant minds from around the world. Sharing experiences, forging new partnerships, and building friendships in such a serene and inspiring environment was deeply rewarding. I’m eager to apply the knowledge and insights gained to my work in the cancer space and to strengthen our healthcare systems. My heartfelt thanks to the organizers and the Roche Africa team for including us in this journey and supporting us every step of the way. Special thanks to Pablo, Maturin, Doris, Dr. Hameed, Patricia, Mariad, and more.”
