Wafik S. El-Deiry: Mia Ackerman’s enormous impact through health-related legislation improved the lives of Rhode Islanders

Wafik S. El-Deiry shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Thankful to Deputy Majority Whip of the Rhode Island House Representative Mia Ackerman for her enormous impact over the last decade+ through health-related legislation to improve the lives of Rhode Islanders.

Among the very important with regard to cancer and other diseases, she championed legislation to ban use of tanning beds for minors, biomarker testing and data sharing. The latest, data sharing, is a huge advance for the state to align with federal law.

Rhode Island is lucky to have her advocacy for important causes and her dedication to public service.

We look forward to working with her on important initiatives to decrease the burden from cancer in Rhode Island.

Appreciate the opportunity to meet this afternoon at Seven Stars Bakery on Hope Street in Providence to update her on progress at Legorreta Cancer Center towards the highest standards of excellence. There is still much to be done to prevent, detect early and treat cancer, address disparities and unravel the causes of very high rates of cancer in Rhode Island. We look forward to partnering and supporting important legislation that addresses the cancer burden in the State of Rhode Island.”
