Isabel Mestres: The inspiring journey of one of only 20 Oncology Nurse, Emelia Osei
Isabel Mestres shared a post on LinkedIn:
“In Kumasi, Ghana, Emelia Osei stands as one of only 20 oncology nurses in the entire country, navigating the daily challenge of delivering critical care among limited resources and frequent equipment breakdowns.
But Emelia’s story is one of resilience, innovation, and the transformative power of global collaboration.
I encourage you to dive into her inspiring journey and discover the profound impact of these collaborative efforts.
Thanks to City Cancer Challenge’s Technical Cooperation and Capacity Development programme, Emelia recently completed a shadow training at Mayo Clinic.
There, she gained invaluable experience and insights that are already reshaping cancer care in Kumasi.
From implementing psychosocial support to launching a pioneering sexual health clinic, Emelia is driving change that is directly improving patient outcomes.
This journey has been a collective effort.
A special thank you to Dr. Kenneth Merrell and Rachael Guenzel at Mayo Clinic for their mentorship, and to Katie Kemper, MBA, PMP and Thet Ko Aung for their leadership in making this programme a reality.”
