Jennifer Goldsack: Addressing equity and financial toxicity to reduce the burden of cancer for all people

Jennifer Goldsack, CEO at the Digital Medicine Society, shared on LinkedIn:

“Launching CancerX Moonshot last year alongside our Moffitt Cancer Center, The White House, Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy, and Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH) colleagues has been one of the greatest privileges of my career and one of the most important bodies of work we have done at the Digital Medicine Society (DiMe).

Setting the tone for our work and this community, we prioritized addressing equity and financial toxicity as the cornerstone of digital innovation to reduce the burden of cancer for all people.

Today is the culmination of an extraordinary body of work creating powerful resources ready to bring value to healthcare systems, digital product developers, and, most importantly, people with cancer. Building on brilliant resources released earlier this year – 1. a core competencies guide for health systems, 2. a catalog of digital solutions already demonstrating their ability to improve equity and access for people with cancer, and 3. a financial navigation guide for engaging with patients to reduce out-of-pocket costs – today we are delighted to launch:

A Digital Navigation ROI Calculator to quantify the ROI that health systems and cancer centers can capture by investing in digital patient navigation to boost access and reduce financial toxicity
A Digitally Enabled Patient Navigation Blueprint that prioritizes increasing access and reducing financial toxicity while ensuring that patient navigation programming is
Reimbursable
Standardized
Efficient
Docks into EHRs and workflows

And the best part about all of this? Our brilliant CancerX community is already driving these best practices forward and have shared details of their impact on system efficiency and patients’ lives.”
