Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu: Medicaid Cancer Foundation and BISON collaborate to expand Breast cancer detection
Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu shared on LinkedIn:
“My team and I at MEDICAID CANCER FOUNDATION, recently met with members of the Breast Imaging Society of Nigeria (BISON), to explore potential partnerships and collaboration opportunities.
Since its inception in 2009, Medicaid Radio-diagnostics and Clinics has built strong telemedicine platforms which a collaboration with BISON will expand. With less than 300 practicing radiologists in Nigeria, we must look more toward digital technology to fill this human resource gap (countries such as the U.S.A. have about 50,000 radiologists).
We discussed ways the organization can help us detect breast cancer earlier. The radiologists, Dr. Ukaka Itanyi, Dr. Olatunji, and Dr. Wande Titus, spoke about using what we have to achieve our goals. Since access to mammograms is low and expensive, Dr Itanyi(read our recent review of mammograms performed under Medicaid, opined that ultrasound technology, which is readily available, can be used to reach more women, particularly those with dense breasts.
We’re thrilled about the possibilities ahead and look forward to working closely with BISON, especially as we prepare for our annual “Walk Away Cancer” event in October.
We are indeed, United Against Cancer.
