Cancer Institute NSW celebrates inaugural CNSA’s Cancer Nurses Day

Cancer Institute NSW shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Today we celebrate the inaugural Cancer Nurses Society Of Australia (CNSA) Cancer Nurses Day, recognising the work of cancer nurses nationwide and highlighting their role in improving patient outcomes.

Cancer nurses provide compassionate support and expert care from diagnosis, recovery and beyond. With specialised knowledge and dedication, cancer nurses directly influence positive outcomes and experiences for patients and their families.

The Cancer Institute collaborates with CNSA, an organisation supporting and advocating for cancer nurses working across all levels of patient care. Today is an opportunity to reflect on how cancer nurses are leading and adapting to the changing landscape of cancer care, shaping the future of the profession for the better.

Kelly Conway, eviQ Content Author – Nursing and CNSA NSW Committee, shares her personal reflections with us on Cancer Nurses Day

  • What does Cancer Nurses Day mean to you?

It’s a day to reflect, recognise and celebrate! I feel extremely privileged to call myself a cancer nurse. It’s a day to reflect on my practice and the patients I have cared for, a day to stop and acknowledge the work of my colleagues and the pivotal role they play across all aspects of cancer care and it’s a day to celebrate the contribution cancer nurses are to the health and wellbeing of all Australians.

  •  Why did you decide to become a nurse?

My family encouraged me to do nursing, I still was very unsure if it was for me, straight from high school I went to university and from day one I have never looked back. It’s more than a ‘job’ – it’s a passion – and no two days are the same. I have had the privileged to care for the most beautiful patients and made the most amazing friendships! Cancer nurses are special, friends for life.

  • How has your background in cancer nursing impacted your career and the work you do now with eviQ?

Having worked in a variety of cancer nursing roles and settings I have encountered first-hand how eviQ is used in clinical practice and how vital it is that the content remains up to date and easily accessible for all health care professionals and patients. Advocating for evidence-based practice to enhance patient outcomes and ensuring equity in cancer care is at the heart of what I do and working for eviQ allows me to do this. I am also passionate about promoting cancer nursing education, knowledge sharing, networking and bringing nurses together to promote the profession that is why I am also part of the CNSA’s NSW State Group committee.
