40 years since the labs at Children’s Cancer Institute first opened their doors

Children’s Cancer Institute shared on LinkedIn:

“2024 marks 40 years since the labs at Children’s Cancer Institute first opened their doors.

Incredibly, the first three researchers to join our labs, Professor Michelle Haber, Professor Maria Kavallaris and Professor Murray Norris are still with the Institute today – 40 years later.

Today our vision remains the same. To save the lives of all children with cancer and improve their long-term health, through research.

The Institute has grown to employ over 350 researchers, operational staff and students and has established a national and international reputation for scientific excellence.

Since day one, the Institute’s focus has been on translational research, with an integrated team of laboratory researchers and clinician scientists working together in partnership to discover new treatments which can be progressed from the lab bench to the beds of children in hospital as quickly as possible.

This has led to pioneering precision medicine for children with cancer in Australia.

This incredible milestone presents an opportunity to reflect on the progress and impact Children’s Cancer Institute has made over the past 40 years and the importance of research in improving outcomes for children with cancer.

Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be sharing our story and highlighting some of the amazing research accomplishments throughout our history.

We’d love you to follow along at 40 Years Of Research At CCI.”
