Miranda Ashitey: People are still shocked when I tell them men are susceptible to the BRCA1 and 2 mutation

Miranda Ashitey, Breast Cancer Blogger, shared a post by JAMA Oncology on X, adding:

“People are still shocked when I tell them men are susceptible to the BRCA1 and 2 mutation in terms of passing it to current or future children. It also increases the chance of Male Breast Cancer in men, trans women and non-binary and increases the chance of Prostate Cancer.”

Quoting JAMA Oncology’s post shared a recent paper by Heather H. Cheng et al., commenting:

“Half of people with inherited BRCA1 and 2 mutations are men, yet very few men are offered genetic testing or know the importance to their own health. Article reviews data and screening recommendations aimed to help men take action to reduce their risk of cancer.”

BRCA1, BRCA2, and Associated Cancer Risks and Management for Male Patients published in JAMA Network.
