Sami (Papacek) Mansfield: Incredible experience for me as an exercise oncology and lifestyle medicine professional
, Founder, Oncology Exercise, Lifestyle Medicine Operations & Implementation Consultant at Cancer Wellness for Life shared a post by Founder and CEO at
“Being back in Kansas City this weekend was an incredible experience for me as an exercise oncology and lifestyle medicine professional.
Looking back to where I started this journey when having patients exercise on treatment wouldn’t even have been a whisper of an idea to discussing the power of lifestyle interventions to improve outcomes, quality of life and persistant patient concerns around practical needs such as sleep, ER visits and side effects.
While there is so much more to be done, the tide has shifted to moving past trying to convince oncology of the relevance of my field into the space of how can we implement it?
How can we work within the confines of the payer models, leverage value based care, utilize AI, support a field navigating rapid fire changes in treatment pathways and health systems alongside burnout?
I believe we can. I know we already are. This is when my entrepreneurial blood gets excited to take on this vision full force. This weekend I had countless conversations filled with hope, optimism and of course movement!
Here we go. Thank you to Sarah Louden and the entire team for making this space. We are small but mighty”

“ASCO Direct Kansas City our smallest meeting of the summer so far, but feedback has been great about our speakers, venue, and team! We welcomed 72 people.
I used to qualify success by the number of people in the room, but with maturity, I now qualify it by delivering excellence to each person that trusts us with their time and attention.
Organizing this program had challenges from the start. Our educational collaborator The University of Kansas Cancer Center hosted their own ASCO review in June, there were other reviews in Topeka, Witchita, and Springfield—and we even hosted our 8th Annual Denver ASCO Direct, and this is the last weekend of the summer before school starts.
No matter what, Total Health | Oncology poured ourselves into planning a great agenda with incredible speakers, preparing for those who registered to have a fantastic weekend, and praying that each learner would take something life-changing back to practice.
Thank you to Sami (Papacek) Mansfield for bringing enormous energy to start lifestyle medicine, then to our speakers Marc Roth, St. Luke’s Health System, Axel Grothey, West Cancer Center & Research Institute, Lara Kujtan, University of Missouri-Kansas City, Chao Huang, Jorge Darcourt Rizo Patron, Texas Oncology, Tolga Tuncel, Jeff Harris, Maxwell Krem , HCA Midwest Health, Ravi Madan, Chao Huang, National Cancer Institute (NCI), Russell Pachynski, Siteman Cancer Center, Gary Doolittle, Jennifer Klemp, Tonia Yelder, Elyse Lower, University of Cincinnati and Nisreen Haideri
Our exhibitors make everything we do possible, and they trust us to grow programs across the US. Thank you for this! We don’t take it lightly. Special thanks to Pfizer Gilead Sciences, Merck Amgen Oncology.
I’m so grateful to hold the mission of educator! It is a blessing and an honor to be part of the oncology community.
