“COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT TO INCREASE CANCER PREVENTION AWARENESS
About a week ago, we were honored to receive a group of almost 200 incredible women at Marcelle Ruth!!!
The illustrious daughters of UMUADA IGBO (a collective term for all 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 Nigeria’s seven Igbo speaking States), the organisation is a USA-registered not-for-profit whose vision includes promoting cultural values within their families living in the diaspora and helping to educate and empower women in their home states.
Led by their Founder and President Lady Adaobi Ekwefi, their visit to Nigeria was primarily to launch their Lagos branch and they used it as an opportunity to see how healthcare of international standards are being delivered here in Lagos.
I was impressed by the sheer organisation to get over 100 women from different states in the US to Lagos for the planned 3-day events and was grateful that a visit to MRCC was included in their program.
Although I was out of Lagos, I was able to we connect with them virtually in our seminar room before they were given a tour of our state-of-the-art facilities. They were very impressed by our journey which has led to the clinical care of 3000+ patients, several awareness and screening programs as well as the development of our research program to attain better insight into treatments tailored to our ethnic population.
We truly appreciate this visit and look forward to further collaboration with this group of women leaders to increase the awareness for preventive medicine within their communities in Nigeria and indeed in the Diaspora.”
