Children’s Cancer Institute – Thanks to Matty’s Hope, Kenny Ip has been able to advance his research into Diffuse Hemispheric Glioma
Children’s Cancer Institute shared on LinkedIn:
“Matt was gentle, kind-hearted, and had a gift for connecting with people. He loved playing hockey and at 19 was healthy, active and social, having recently finished high school.
When he started suffering from migraines in July 2021, Matt went for an MRI that came back clean. But as his health continued to deteriorate it was clear that something was wrong. It wasn’t until he had a biopsy that Matt and his family received the devastating news, he had Diffuse Hemispheric Glioma (G34-DHG), a rare and aggressive brain cancer.
Two years ago today, Matt passed away surrounded by his family, just eight months after receiving his diagnosis. His family set up Matty’s Hope in his honour, an Australian-first research project at Children’s Cancer Institute into G34-DHG. Thanks to Matty’s Hope, Dr Kenny Ip has been able to advance his research into this rare cancer, as explained in this video.
On Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th August, Sydney Hockey will be holding the second Matty’s Hope Round to raise money for G34-DHG research. Matt was a much-loved member of the hockey community, and we would like to thank Sydney Hockey for their ongoing support, having raised over $30k in 2023. ”
