Patient stories from The Max Foundation – Chroek
The Max Foundation shared on LinkedIn:
“‘My name is Chroek and I am 29 years old. I live with my mother, who sells sugar cane, and my older sister in a rented house in Cambodia. It has always been challenging to find work, because I lost my hearing ever since I was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) in 2013.
“I went through chemotherapy 12 times, and dialysis every month. Finally, my family couldn’t afford any more treatments. The physician told my sister to take me to Mercy Medical Center Cambodia to receive medication for CML provided free of charge. I have been taking this medication for over four years now. My health result turned out great because the hospital and The Max Foundation staff cared for me.
“I thought that I would not live long and lost my hope and dreams, but my mother and older sister encouraged me to keep fighting
To patients like me I would like to say: do not feel despair, even if we have this sickness. We must try to continue to live. Please do not think that you are alone. I wish patients like me, good health, full of energy’
We’re grateful for donors and partners who’ve enabled us to provide over 37,000 people annually with access to treatment and offer support for their families too.”
