The Women in Healthcare Network (WIHCN) had an inspiring and productive week in Abuja with courtsey calls, hosting new members and establishing new collaborative efforts.

Visit to MEDICAID, Utako:

We were hosted by Dr Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, Founder and CEO at her impressive facility in the Utako branch. Medicaid is renowned for creating health awareness, training health workers, and funding the diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients in Nigeria.

The tour was exceptional, showcasing top-notch operations and discussing opportunities for collaborative work to improve healthcare delivery in Nigeria.

Courtesy visit to the Co-ordinating Minister for Health and Social Welfare:

WIHCN had the honour of visiting Prof Muhammad Ali Pate the Coordinating Minister of Health & Social Welfare. Dr. Elebute-Odunsi and other members expressed appreciation for his support at the WIHCN launch in January 2024.

Prof. Pate shared valuable growth ideas to enhance WIHCN’s reach and impact, and discussed potential collaborations to support women in health through mentorship and training programs.

Special Visit to Dr Tunji Alausa and NICRAT:

WIHCN attended the National Workshop on Population-Based Cancer Registration organized by NICRAT, with Dr. Tunji Alausa Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare as the special guest of honour.

Dr. Alausa announced mandatory cancer case reporting, a significant step improving outcomes. Meeting with WIHCN members, Dr Alausa reiterated his support for the growth and development of women in healthcare across the country.

Empowering Change: Speaking at the Women’s Health and Wellness Conference:

A number of WIHCN Founding Members had the privilege to speak at this conference organized by the Medical Women’s Association (MWAN).
