Chronic Pain Management for Patients with Serious Illness in the Context of Substance Use Disorder – Center to Advance Palliative Care
Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC) shared a post on LinkedIn:
”New CAPC Workshops: Chronic Pain Management for Patients with Serious Illness in the Context of Substance Use Disorder.
Taught by expert faculty, Jessica S. Merlin and Katie Fitzgerald Jones, this new series of clinical training workshops helps clinicians confidently manage pain for some of the most complex patients.
Workshop attendees will learn up-to-date, practical, evidence-based guidance on how to:
- Navigate pain management decision-making to provide the best care for a highly-vulnerable patient population.
- Mitigate the risk of substance use disorder (SUD) for patients with chronic pain.
- Manage pain for patients with SUD or opioid use disorder using a harm reduction approach.
- Prescribe buprenorphine as a safe alternative to full agonist opioids.
Clinicians from all care settings, working with all patient populations, are encouraged to attend one or both of the workshops. Continuing medical education (CME), Maintenance of Certification (MOC), and Continuing nursing education (CNE) will be provided to attendees. These workshops are designed to meet the Federal MATE Act requirement for new or renewing DEA licensees for training on opioid or other substance use disorders and the appropriate treatment of pain.
CAPC membership is NOT required, but members receive discounted registration. Space is limited!”
