A Tribute to Harald zur Hausen: Inspiring Moments with the Nobel Laureate in HPV Research and Cancer
Harald zur Hausen, the renowned scientist who was awarded the Nobel Prize, has had a significant impact on the field of HPV research. Over the years, many fortunate individuals had the opportunity to meet him at conferences in Portugal. One unforgettable event took place in Lisbon in 2009, where a small homage was organized to honor Prof. Harald zur Hausen. During this event, he captivated the audience with his inspiring presence and insightful lectures. What amazed us was his perspective at the age of 73. Instead of solely focusing on HPV, he shared his plans for researching other viruses that could be linked to cancer. His commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and his team’s research was truly remarkable. Interacting with Prof. Harald zur Hausen left an indelible mark on us, and we feel privileged to have been part of those unique moments.
