Michael Wallace: A New Era of Early Detection in Pancreatic Cancer

Michael Wallace, Professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, shared on LinkedIn:

“Until recently, a new diagnosis of pancreatic cancer was appropriately greatly feared, especially since most are detected very late.

Recent advances in our ability to detect pancreatic cancer early when it’s more curable are highlighted in this timely article from New York Magazine.

One of the major challenges is that pancreatic cancer can be extremely difficult to see in its earliest most curable form, a stage 1 tumor or even pre-cancerous ‘dysplasia.’

Our team at Mayo Clinic including Ajit Goenka, Ulas Bagci, Yan Bi, Candice Bolan, Peter Storz, Shounak Majumder continue to identify promising AI technologies which allow detection of pancreatic cancer at its earliest stage even before it is technically called a cancer.

Together with recent major improvements in treatment the scientific advances now offer hope where there once was little. If you have a family history of pancreatic cancer, or cysts on the pancreas, screening at Mayo Clinic may be a good option.
