From Strategy to Impact: Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu Shares Key Insights from Geneva UICC Forum

Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, UICC President-Elect of 2024-2026, Founder and CEO of the Medicaid Cancer Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:

The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) Cancer Planners Forum in Geneva brought together cancer planners, policymakers, advocates, and partners from across 54 countries to exchange experiences and discuss practical approaches to implementing cancer control plans.

Key discussions focused on the importance of involving people with lived experience in both cancer planning and implementation, the role of reliable data in shaping effective cancer control plans, and the need for strong monitoring and evaluation frameworks to measure impact and accountability.

There were also important conversations around the opportunities and risks associated with the growing use of AI in cancer control, particularly in diagnostics, planning, and health systems strengthening.

The table discussions that followed sessions enabled us to share our own perspectives.

For Nigeria, these discussions are especially relevant following the launch of the National Cancer Control Plan (2025-2030).

One of the pillars of UICC is convening stakeholders to influence policy. Without partners, this would not be possible. So a big thank you to the organizing team and all partners.”
